Our Story
A HISTORY OF ARTISANSHIP AND INNOVATION
NOMI was established in 2013 by Henry Gresson in Surry Hills, Sydney, with a mission to create an innovative and flexible design system that allows users to customise furniture online. This vision remains central to NOMI's operations today. The initial collection was designed by Sydney-based architect and designer Tomek Archer, setting the foundation for NOMI's commitment to collaborating with talented designers worldwide.
In 2020, NOMI expanded its creative horizons by introducing in-house product designs. Throughout its evolution, NOMI has consistently focused on marrying traditional craftsmanship with original design and innovation, offering customisable, high-quality furniture that complements the agile nature of our modern lives.

About us
EMPOWERING USERS TO CUSTOMISE FURNITURE ONLINE
NOMI: Work, Home, Life – Designed. NOMI is an Australian furniture brand that marries traditional craftsmanship with original design and innovation. Our mission is simple: "Empowering users to customise furniture online so it fits their style and space."
The original NOMI collection was born of a desire to honour craftsmanship and honesty of Japanese joinery. In Japanese woodworking, a "nomi" is a chisel—considered the purest tool, representing the woodworker and their craft. This philosophy of craftmanship and simplicity has continued into our collections today.
